32 Data Breaches Larger Than Sony’s in the Past Year

In late November, hackers breached Sony’s servers and leaked a wide range of data. This included internal documents on Sony employees and actors, as well as copies of unreleased Sony movies such as Annie, Mr. Turner, Still Alice, and To Write Love on Her Arms. This led to led to many theaters refusing to screen Sony’s film, The Interview.

But as Cammy Harbison points out in iDigitalTimes, the Sony Hack was not even one of the ten largest hacks of 2014. Though large, it actually only ranks as the 33rd largest of the year in terms of number of records breached. EBay actually suffered the largest data breach of 2014 (and the second largest since 2005) with more than 150 million records compromised.

Take a look for yourself at the interactive table below which shows the top 50 largest security breaches of 2014. These include Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, nonprofits, and even colleges.
